Snack time at Ashgate

Snack time is an important and enjoyable part of the day. It’s not just a chance for children to refuel their bodies, but also an opportunity to develop independence, social skills, and healthy habits.

During snack time, children gather together in a calm and relaxed environment. This shared moment encourages conversation, friendship, and a sense of community. Children learn to take turns, practice good manners, and engage in simple discussions with their peers and staff.

We encourage independence by supporting children to pour their own drinks, choose their snack, and tidy up afterwards. These small tasks help build confidence and develop important life skills.

Snack time is also a great opportunity to talk about healthy eating. We offer a variety of nutritious snacks such as fresh fruit, vegetables, crackers, and other wholesome options. This helps children explore new tastes and learn about making healthy food choices.

Just as importantly, snack time provides a pause in the busy preschool day. It gives children time to relax, recharge, and prepare for the next activity.

At preschool, we believe that even the smallest parts of the day — like snack time — are valuable learning experiences.
