Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

At Ashgate and Central, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all children, families and staff. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive regardless of their background, abilities or beliefs.

We celebrate diversity and actively promote equality in everything we do.

Our Commitment

Our nursery promotes equality of opportunity and ensures that no child, parent, carer or member of staff is discriminated against on the grounds of:

  • Age

  • Disability

  • Gender

  • Gender reassignment

  • Marriage or civil partnership

  • Pregnancy or maternity

  • Race, ethnicity or nationality

  • Religion or belief

  • Sexual orientation

Our practice follows the principles set out in the Equality Act 2010 and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Supporting Every Child

We recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Our team works closely with families to ensure that each child receives the support they need to reach their full potential.

We do this by:

  • Creating an inclusive learning environment

  • Adapting activities to meet individual needs

  • Supporting children with additional needs and disabilities

  • Encouraging respect, kindness and understanding

  • Celebrating different cultures, languages and traditions

Celebrating Diversity

Our nursery promotes positive attitudes towards diversity through everyday learning experiences.

Children are encouraged to:

  • Learn about different cultures and traditions

  • Celebrate festivals and events from around the world

  • Explore books, resources and activities that reflect diverse communities

  • Develop respect for others and their differences

By doing this, we help children build confidence, empathy and a strong sense of belonging.

Working in Partnership with Families

We value the important role families play in a child’s development. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure all families feel respected, listened to and supported.

We welcome families from all backgrounds and encourage open communication so we can work together to support every child.

Staff Training and Practice

Our staff receive training and guidance to ensure inclusive practice is embedded throughout the nursery.

This helps us create an environment where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion practices are supported by a range of policies including:
