Safeguarding

Safeguarding

At Central and Ashgate, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in our care.

Our nursery ensures that all safeguarding procedures follow national guidance including the Working Together to Safeguard Children and the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We create a safe, caring and supportive environment where children feel secure and protected.

We do this by:

  • Ensuring all staff receive safeguarding and child protection training

  • Following clear safeguarding and reporting procedures

  • Maintaining a safe and secure nursery environment

  • Encouraging children to feel confident, valued and respected

  • Working closely with parents, carers and external professionals

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and is embedded in everything we do.

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Mrs Peach and she is responsible for overseeing safeguarding practice within our settings. Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) is Mrs Darby.

They ensure that:

  • Safeguarding concerns are responded to appropriately

  • Staff receive appropriate training and guidance

  • Safeguarding policies are followed and regularly reviewed

  • Concerns are shared with relevant agencies when necessary

Safer Recruitment

We follow strict recruitment procedures to ensure that all staff working with children are suitable. This includes:

  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks

  • Identity and qualification checks

  • References from previous employers

  • Safeguarding training for all staff

All staff are trained to recognise the signs of possible abuse or neglect and understand the procedures for reporting concerns.

If we have concerns about a child’s safety or welfare, we have a duty to share this information with the appropriate safeguarding agencies to ensure children receive the support they need.

We take online safety seriously and ensure children are protected when using technology within the nursery.

Staff follow clear procedures regarding:

  • Use of digital devices

  • Photography and video

  • Online safety awareness
